2024 Trial Judge of the Year

Selected by the Texas Association of Civil Trial and Appellate Specialists

Meet Beau Miller

Growing up in a military family meant that I called many different places “home” — from small towns to big cities. My upbringing gave me a deep respect for people from all backgrounds and taught me to value fairness, diversity, and empathy — values I carry with me every day on the bench.

Since my election in 2018, I’ve had the honor of serving as Judge of the 190th Judicial District Court in Harris County. Before that, I built a successful legal career representing clients on both sides of the courtroom — plaintiffs and defendants — in complex civil and constitutional cases.

Throughout my career, both before and after taking the bench, I’ve been committed to promoting fairness, improving access to justice, and advancing diversity in our justice system. During the COVID-19 pandemic, I led efforts to ensure jury trials could continue safely, and I was the first judge in Harris County to conduct a Zoom bench trial and an in-person jury trial during the pandemic.

I've always considered myself a teacher first. I began my professional life as Associate Director of the Steven F. Austin High School Band — where I emphasized the importance of discipline, listening, and teamwork to the 200 students I taught. I bring those same guiding principles to my work today. Every person who steps into my courtroom deserves respect, a fair hearing, and a judge who knows the law, listens, and rules with integrity. I’m running for re-election because I remain deeply committed to that responsibility and to serving the people of Harris County with the fairness and diligence they deserve.

A Trusted Leader

Hinojosa on the United States District Court for the Southern District of Texas. Before his career in law, Judge Miller was Associate Director of Bands at Stephen F. Austin High School in Austin, Texas, after graduating from Louisiana State University with a Bachelor of Music Education degree. At LSU, he served as the Drum Major of the “Golden Band from Tigerland.”
